SARS Notice: Employee Tax Numbers Are Mandatory

SARS has issued an important notice regarding the upcoming Employer Filing Season.

From the February 2026 employer filing season, Income Tax numbers will be strictly enforced as a mandatory requirement when submitting employer reconciliations. Submissions without valid Income Tax numbers will not be accepted, and non-compliance may result in administrative penalties.

We encourage all employers to review their employee records as soon as possible to ensure that Income Tax numbers are obtained and correctly captured in your payroll system. This will help avoid delays, rejected submissions, or penalties during the filing period.

Employers can apply for tax numbers on behalf of employees through the following channels:

  • e@syFile, if you submit your own EMP501 reconciliations

  • eFiling, where your profile includes the required functionality

  • An MRBM Consultant can apply on behalf of the company at a fee of R150 (excl. VAT) per employee

Alternatively, individuals may also register for or retrieve their own tax numbers directly via the SARS website.

Why Customising Your Sage Accounting Templates Matters

Your quotations, invoices and statements are more than just financial documents — they’re part of your brand.

Many businesses only revisit their layouts when something changes or when documents start looking inconsistent. By that stage, updates often become rushed and require unnecessary rework.

Taking a little time now to review and customise your Sage templates helps ensure your business always presents a professional image.

Keep Your Documents Clean and Consistent

Your invoice and quotation templates are often the last touchpoint clients have with your business. Outdated layouts, inconsistent branding, or missing information can unintentionally affect how professional your business appears.

Customising your Sage invoice and quote templates early allows you to:

✔ Ensure consistent branding across all customer documents
✔ Include correct company details and payment terms
✔ Improve readability and clarity for clients
✔ Maintain a professional, polished look as your business grows

Making these adjustments early helps avoid reworking templates later and keeps your documents aligned with your brand.

Your Documents Should Reflect Your Business

As businesses evolve, branding often changes — new logos, updated colours, or revised company details. Ensuring your accounting documents reflect these changes helps reinforce trust and professionalism with every interaction.
