Take Control of Month-End

Why does month-end often turn into a last-minute rush?

Does month-end often feels like a last-minute scramble?

With tight deadlines and multiple moving parts, it’s easy for things to feel reactive instead of controlled, especially when processes aren’t as streamlined as they could be. The result is often unnecessary stress, missed steps, or time spent fixing avoidable errors.

The good news is that a smoother, more predictable month-end is well within reach.

Here’s a simple checklist to help you stay on track:

✔ Keep your data up to date
Before you begin month-end, ensure all invoices, expenses, and journals are fully captured. Working with incomplete data often leads to rework and delays later in the process.

✔ Reconcile key accounts
Take the time to reconcile your bank accounts, creditors, and debtors. This helps you catch discrepancies early and ensures your numbers are accurate before reporting.

✔ Review reports early
Run your key reports in draft form and scan for anything unusual — unexpected variances, missing transactions, or incorrect balances. It’s far easier to fix issues before finalising.

✔ Check VAT and payroll entries
Confirm that VAT transactions and payroll postings have been processed correctly and align with your supporting reports. This step is key for compliance and avoiding submission issues.

✔ Lock your period
Once everything is finalised, lock the period in your system to prevent accidental changes. This protects the integrity of your financial data going forward.
